Tagna-Tagna 2015
It’s tagna-tagna season once again! How time flies, noh!?

A lot of  VRS readers who are diehard believers in the horoscope have been asking what’s in store for them in the 2015, also known as the Year of the Wooden Sheep ( Year of the Goat or Year of the Ram), which will officially begin on Chinese New Year in February 2015.
According to astrologers and feng shui experts, the Year of the Sheep follows the tumultuous Year of the Horse and heralds a more calm atmosphere.  If last year was the Horse’s year to gallop and take off, this year will be the year for contemplating and appreciating what has already been accomplished, to think about bringing goodness to others and to look for a brighter side.
Green is the lucky color of 2015. “Have a touch of color green to enhance money and luck,” says my friend- astrologer-geomancer Edward.
2015 will be a year of prosperity, luck and opportunity for many.
And as tradition is hard to break, VRS is dishing out his annual tagna-tagna (batting average is 98% every year).
Drum roll please...
• Former beauty queen Anna Maris Igpit and her Aussie football player Thomas Taylor are seriously planning to march down the aisle in May.
• Youth leader and composer Clyde Ebojo and Marjorie Robles are planning to seal their love this year. Also, Elvie Bongosia of Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and her beau will settle down this summer.
• Sorry, folks, but some of labidabs hinting at marching down the aisle may not survive the year. Right, Rebecca Lusterio and Thomas Mejiso and Alfeo Jabinez and Amy Fiel Booc?  But  David Maulas and Jenissa Laguda Peteros  and Marianne Domivee Chatto and Haibon Lim Mapute might try (subject to further “testing”).
• Tableya Princess Dalareich Polot will remain loveless. But, she will make gold this year! Read: Ginto
• Miss Bohol 2014 will finally (finally!!!) find a boyfriend who is romantic, confident, artistic, foreign, free spirit (aka the bad boy), intelligent/witty and considerate!
• Panglao beauties will make it big this year: Candy Cumayas will try to join another national beauty pageant, Catherine Tabaniag and Mary Rose Butalid will bring home the bacon for Panglao.
• Something “big” is in store for beauty queen Immaculada Cleofe Leopardas who will have a busy year modelling for a popular website.
• Beauty queens Geraldine Topsnik, Idy Cagas and Felisse Marie Carvajal will have colorful lovelife!
• The stork might pay Architect Junibe Froilan, Jr and Dr. April Lumuthang-Froilan (of Touch of April) a visit this year.
• Department of Agriculture administrative officer Atty. Joan Jagonos will start having morning sickness middle of the year and it will make her husband Benjie Oliva very happy. A possibility: Eden Descallar of Globe will also make her husband Mikel Ceballos very happy by breaking to him the good news that she’s “expecting”…

• It will be a healthy baby girl for Diane Uy-Yap and Atty. Wrenly Yap in February!
• Abdul Wallace and Chandrina Elluiska Schreurs-Wallace should expect the stork’s visit.
• Former beauty queen Loida Lagonoy-Viloria and her husband George Viloria will make an important announcement—a stork’s visit this year.
•Hannah Precillas’ star will shine even brighter and bigger. Ang bet natin!
• Something big for Kimpoy Mainit and Humfrey Nicasio, Marc Joseph Batoy, Danilo Torcende, Adryan Mila, Carlos Alfonso Cuerquiz and Ar-Ar dela Serna will happen this year.
• Pope Francis might visit Bohol this January 2015. Even after the schedule for the papal visit was already finalized, most Boholanos continued to pray that Pontiff will change his mind and drop by Bohol before or after visiting Leyte.
And...
• A topnotch lawyer and (a veteran) politician will have a tearful reconciliation. All’s well that ends well.
•  Another big scandal will shake the political scene, more intense that some may vacate the seats.
• A movie which will be made in Bohol will win accolades in international film festivals.
• An inspiring young model’s wholesome image will be tarnished by issues against him.  Hijo, be careful!
• A prominent community organizer (CO) will be named to a government position but the appointment will be shadowed by a controversy involving the CO’s personal life.
An inspiring young model cum young socialite might find herself experiencing morning sickness...that is, if she doesn’t take the necessary precautions.Sayang ka day kay something great things are in store for her in 2015.
• Another block time radio program will fade out. No elaboration.
• More prominent Boholanos will get entangled in senseless controversies due to their addiction to social networking.
The wedding of a couple who announced their engagement in 2015 will either not be pushed through or will be postponed indefinitely.
• A new talent from Bohol will make name this year. The talent is one of the few Boholanos who will give honor to Bohol.
• A messenger of the word, a prominent politician, a great lawyer, an artist, an educator, will be in Summerland. (Knock on the wood!)
• Bohol will make a world headline. No elaboration.
•Beauche owner and former Carmen Mayor CheChe Toribio delos Reyes will make a final decision (to run or not to run in 2016) middle of this year.
• Before the year ends, veteran politicians in the white sandy part of Bohol will announce their intention to join next year’s election, one of them a doctor will run against his best friend.
•Unlike in previous elections, very, very few (old and veteran) politicians will dare run in 2016…blame it on the scrapped “pork”? However, towards the end of the year, more (young and inexperienced) politician will declare their intention of running in the 2016 elections. Some will do mudslinging in the last quarter of the year. But, sad to say, only a few of them will win.
The Year of the Sheep is just four days old. There is still 11 months this 2015 to watch for more surprises!
Note: As I said, these are all tagna-tagna (bunga lang sa panghunahuna) and I could be wrong, you know.

Seniang aftermath
Just like Kevin Costner’s Waterworld, some towns of Bohol suffered the same fate due to tropical storm Seniang on Dec. 30, 2014.
Major areas affected were Loboc, Bilar, Cortes, Maribojoc, Loon, Inabanga, Antequera, Batuan and Balilihan. Loboc became a virtual “waterworld” though, surprisingly, it did not lose a single one of its more than 3,500 families.
Seniang left several houses destroyed and four dead.
Salute to the members of Bantay Bayan-Bohol and Guardians headed by Jun “Alerto” Gutierrez and members of the Bohol Paddlers Association headed by Dominic Borja Aparicio for being on hand to help during the flood in Loboc town. The Rotary Club of Tagbilaran headed by Tagbilaran Councilor Nerio "Butchie" Zamora III and members of JCI-Chocolate Hills headed by its president Mayelle Hubac with Dr. Janice Aurora Tirol, Ph.D. were there to distribute relief goods in flood areas in Loboc. Special mention to Miss Bohol 2014 Queenie Melody Fullante whose presence gave assurance to people that everything would be fine.
2014 was a year of man-made and natural disasters but despite everything, Boholanos ended the year with the spirit of Thanksgiving.   It exemplifies the resilience of Boholanos to face great challenges and go on living with magnanimous faith.

#throwbackBohol2014

From the re-branding of  Bohol’s oldest beauty pageant to the  birth of Bohol’s first surgery clinic, to the  engagement of a beauty queen, to the destruction left in the wake of typhoon Queenie, and to the death of notable Boholanos, VRS has witnessed every breath-taking second.

Join VRS as we look back at the major themes of 2014 that have had the most impact:

#NewMutya — Geraldine Topsnik won the Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2014 crown. The 17-year-old Topsnik, a half-German half-Filipino, describes herself as a “full Filipina and a true Boholana” and aspires to become a successful businesswoman.  “Success is having a goal in life,” said Topsnik. “As long as you tried your best to achieve your goal, and no matter what happen you are contented of what you have.”

#MissBohol2014— Bohol’s Miss Bohol Sandugo was officially celebrated this year as Miss Bohol, the original name of the province’s oldest and prestigious beauty pageant, which will turn 60 in 2015. Queenie Melody Fullante won the title of Miss Bohol: The Quintessential Boholana 2014. “My personality makes me a winner,” said Fullante. She further impressed by singing the classic Visayan song “Usahay.” Regine said she was happy to entertain her Bol-anon fans, who had endured a deadly earthquake and strong typhoons in the past year. “I appreciate you guys coming here,” she said, “but I still have to sing ‘Tuwing Umuulan (at Kapiling Ka), sorry!’” she quipped, drawing laughter. Teen actors Miguel Tanfelix, Bianca Umali and Julian Trono—stars of “Niño” also entertained the crowd.  Three months after, Tanfelix and Umali returned to Bohol to shoot “Seasons of Love.”

#BibleWeekwithPacman — More than 5,000 participants from the different Christian denominations and faith movements attended this year's National Bible Week and 2nd prayer gathering at the CPG Sports Complex, Tagbilaran City, Bohol on Jan. 25.  Sarangani Province Rep. He encouraged the crowd to read the Bible everyday and deepen their relationship with God.

#BambooFlowers — Lessons to be learned from award-winning movie Bamboo Flowers, a film by Direk Maryo delos Reyes: Think positive. Faith is a tool. When the world is darkest, and you struggle to survive, faith can get you over the worst. Simply survive each day and you will succeed. Learn from each step, better yourself on the next step, and you will succeed. Make good things that you can say your own legacy. Make your own bamboo flowers. “Para sa akin kaya pinili ko Bamboo Flowers na title dahil universal ang ibig sabihin ng bamboo flowers. #JusticeforGeorge —  The Jala family in Sikatuna town was seeking justice for its dog who was shot dead by a policeman. "Bigyan ng katarungan ang aso ko, sagutin nila saan 'yung sabi nila na batas kasi sabi nila may batas sila. Anong klaseng batas na 'yun," Elisea Jala said, according to a "24 Oras" report. Jala claimed their dog George was not a stray dog. However, the Municipal Agricultural Office said the dog was not at its owner's house when it was shot by the police. The office claimed it looked for the owner of the dog and announced it via megaphone. However, the Bohol Provincial Veterinarian Office, said the ordinance did not directly state that stray dogs may be shot. #Goodbye — Those we lost in 2014. This year, we lost several Boholanos who made outstanding contributions to their fields and professions, made a difference in the lives of others, and changed Bohol history. Blind hymnist and composer Onecimo “Onie” Oclarit passed away on Oct. 10. His renowned compositions are Balik sa Bohol Balik, CPG songs, and countless liturgical songs. He served at St. Joseph Cathedral as organist/ vocalist and choir director for 35 years. Bohol Sunday Post publisher Boy whose dazzling media career both in print and broadcast span nearly 50 years, died. In a rare twist of fate in the history of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP-Bohol) and in the city’s political landscape, the province had lost lawyer and three-term city councilor Oscar Butron Glovasa, the first Boholano studying in a local school here who topped the bar exam in the ‘60s,  and top calibre lawyer Aleckoy Lim.  Former DepEd-Western Visayas regional director and University of Bohol President Atty. #FlappyBird — Who plays flappy bird? More Boholanos turned into Facebook to express their feelings on the delightful  yet crushingly difficult mobile game flappy bird. Flappy bird's premise is simple: you tap the screen anywhere to make a pixelated bird move upwards. Hitting any of the green pipes on your path means game over. The game's only goal is to get the highest score possible. This game almost made me throw my phone into the wall today...Ha! Ha! Ha!

#Football — Millions of German football fans reacted with unbridled joy when Mario Goetze struck late in extra-time for Germany to win the World Cup 2014 with a 1-0 victory over Argentina. Soccer is now woven inextricably into the fabric of Filipino life that we’re glued on TV to watch the action, embrace its athleticism and share the excitement. Football teams are now sprouting like mushrooms in towns of Bohol, a manifestation that a changing Bohol has become younger and more diverse. Thanks to Bohol Football Association (BOHFA) headed by Edmar Thaddeus Simpao. Although BOHFA has no financial support from the provincial government, it is still conducting free clinics to teach young people about athleticism and discipline. The excitement grew bigger when Mr. Football Philippines Elmer Lacknet Bedia visited Bohol and gave football equipments. "If you can teach these kids at a young age to be active on football, it really does go a long way," said Bedia.

#NewNormal — Pag-asa-Bohol officer-in-charge Narci Cantor explained the unexpected movement of tropical depression Queenie. “Such natural phenomenon can't be predicted,” said Cantor. What happened was a “wind wave” caused by the wrath of tropical depression Queenie that destroyed several houses and bancas in Jagna, Guindulman, Duero and other coastal towns leaving six dead, other missing and hurt.

#PatRuiz — The name Pat Ruiz became “controversial” when a disturbed school administrator complained that the Diocese of Tagbilaran was deceiving students and civic organizations of the true agenda. However, Pat Ruiz, an environmental activist and anti-graft and corruption crusader, answered her detractors and asked, “Where’s the scandal?”

#Crimes — Burglary crime wave hit the city and other towns as several houses had been burgled.  Several of the burglaries happened as offenders gaining entry via an open ground-floor window or door.  Also, 2014 was a year of painful and violent deaths. A father burned his family in early January, chiefs of police were murdered and suspected drug dealers and lords were killed.

#MostAmazingToilet — The toilet at Shell gas station on J.A. Clarin Street in Tagbilaran, Bohol, goes beyond public expectations. It is now considered as Bohol’s cleanest and most amazing toilet. Not only does it give comfort to those stopping over, it also provides them a taste of luxury.  The comfort rooms have mirrors, paintings, magazines and books, telephone, wifi and other opulent-looking bathroom fixtures that aren't common among public comfort room.  It even has background music and a menthol-like smell. Well, the toilet is now a tourist destination!   “Because we want to share the good life to other people and we want them to feel the comfort that we offer to them,” said Chona Bansag, supervisor. “And we are making our station not simply as a station but a destination.” Similar comfort rooms are also found at Shell Lawaan in Talisay City in Cebu, Shell Tunghaan in Minglanilla, Cebu and Shell Carlos P Garcia - Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Indeed, Shell set the benchmark of standards on fuel distribution.

#Christmassyplaces — Christmas is the gentlest, loveliest and most exciting festival of the year when presents are wrapped, foods are prepared and decorations are hung. But where would you find the most Christmas spirit in Bohol? The top picks for the most Christmassy places around Bohol: Hermila “Mila” Lim’s Christmas village (the only Christmas village in Bohol), Tagbilaran City Hall Compound for the thousands of festive lights and decorations, the sparkling Christmas lights at the FCB Main Building Compound, the dazzling light displays at the Plaza Rizal, Tubigon’s belen and parols, Sierra-Bullones’ tallest Santa Claus and ICM’s giant Santa Claus.
